Countdown To 2023 World Athletics Championships: Ese Brume seeking to make history in Budapest

With uncertainty hovering over the participation of Tobi Ayomide Amusan at the World Athletics Championships which will start on Saturday in Budapest,
Hungary, long jumper, Ese Brume remains Nigeria’s best bet for a podium appearance.

Brume, 27, will be making her fourth straight appearance in the championships since she made her debut in London in 2017 and will be looking to go a step
higher by winning the long jump gold after winning bronze (2019) and silver (2022).

The African long jumper record holder at 7.17m may have had an indifferent outdoor campaign leading to the Championships in Budapest but she has proved to
have the high ocassion temperament. Will her wishes become horses?

The hazy picture will start becoming clearer on the opening day of the championships when the qualification rounds start.

If she rises up to the ocassion like she has done in the past and strikes gold, Brume will become the first Nigerian field eventer and the second Nigerian
overall to win a world outdoor title.

A gold medal win will also mean she is the first Nigerian to win all three categories of medals at the championships.

She will also become the first to win medals in three straight World Championships and the first to also win in the same event in three championships, an
extension of the record she set in 2022 when she became the first in two straight World Championships.
