Dankwambo pledges inclusive and professional future for Nigerian Chess
Senator Ibrahim H. Dankwambo, Ph.D., OON, has officially assumed leadership as President of the Nigeria Chess Federation, following his election and inauguration by the National Sports Commission’s Electoral Committee.
In his acceptance remarks, the Senator expressed deep gratitude and outlined a bold vision for the future of chess in Nigeria.
‘This moment is not just a personal honor, but a collective milestone for Nigerian chess, a new chapter defined by professionalism, sportsmanship, and visionary leadership,’ Dankwambo stated,
He thanked delegates, members, and supporters for their confidence throughout the electoral process, emphasizing that their commitment reflects the highest ideals of sportsmanship and leadership.
He also congratulated fellow board members and pledged to maintain an open-door policy, encouraging collaboration and creativity to drive the federation forward.
Dankwambo’s vision centers on building an inclusive and dynamic chess ecosystem, nurturing talent from grassroots schools to higher institutions nationwide.
He promised to pursue sustainable corporate partnerships and strategic alliances aimed at increasing participation, raising competitive standards, and enhancing Nigeria’s visibility on both national and international stages.
‘I solemnly reaffirm my commitment to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and governance,’ he said, referencing the National Sports Commission’s Code of Governance 2025.
‘The Nigeria Chess Federation will be a model of integrity and excellence.’
He also paid tribute to the outgoing leadership, acknowledging the contributions of former President DIG Sani U. Mohammed (Rtd) and Vice President Adewole Adeyinka Samuel, whose tenure he described as ‘a beacon for our future endeavors.’
