Declan Rice: ‘To score the winner is an honour’
Midfielder scores in the 97th minute to move Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League table
Arsenal moved five points clear of the Premier League table following their dramatic 4-3 win at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town with Declan Rice nodding home a 97th minute winner.
Rice’s winner at 96:23 was Arsenal’s latest winning goal on record (since 2006-07) in a Premier League away game. It also ended a 10-game winless run away against Luton in all competitions, earning their first Kenilworth Road victory since 1984.
The midfielder, who joined Arsenal from West Ham United in the summer of this year believes the team is going in the right direction in the battle for the Premier League title.
“We have to take it every game as it comes. They were eight points clear last season. We have new players like me coming in and learning. It’s just about us and not worrying about anyone else and getting three points each week,” said Rice who says the goal he scored means everything to him.
“I went off his back should and attacked it. Anything can happen. Those are the moments you look back on. What a game. To score the winner is an honour.”
Arsenal have now won eight points from losing positions in the English Premier League this season, only Tottenham Hotspur (9) and Liverpool (15) have recovered more.
