Diamond League Final: Eid Nasser disqualified for lane violation; Adeleke, Ogunleye finish third
It was a night to forget for Nigeria-born Bahrain former world champion, Salwa Eid Nasser who was disqualified for lane violation in the 400m event at the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium.
Christened Ebelechukwu Agbapanwonwu by her parents before moving to Bahrain and changed her name and nationality, Eid Nasser was disqualified for violation World Athletics competition rule TR17.2.3 after stepping on the lane at the curve.
The rule is clear: When running in lanes, each athlete shall keep within their allocated lane from start to finish and, when running on a bend, shall not step or run on or inside the left-hand lane line or in the case of the inside lane, the kerb or line marking the border of the inside of the track.
Eid Nasser, who initially finished a distant second behind reigning Olympic champion, Marileidy Paulino (49.45) of the Dominican Republic, was thus disqualified and USA’s Alexis Holmes (50.32) upgraded from third to second with Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke (50.96) also moved up from fourth to third.
In the Shot Put, Germany’s search for a first Diamond League champion was extended by another year after Olympic champion, Yemisi Ogunleye could only manage a 19.72m third round throw after fouling four of her six efforts, to place third behind Sarah Mitton of Canada who threw 20.25m and Jackson Chase of the USA who dropped Ogunleye from second to third with her fourth throw of 19.77m before improving it to 19.90 in the fifth round.
