Dosso wants to become first Italian to run in World Championships 100m final after winning European indoor title

Zaynab Dosso is already looking beyond her incredible success over the 60m at the European indoor championships and wants to make history at the World outdoor championships in Tokyo, Japan in September.

The 25-year-old sped to a 7.01 lifetime best and world lead to win the 60m event at the European indoor championships on Sunday. Her time also moves her to joint 19th fastest in the world all-time list.

Dosso is however not resting on her oars as she has shifted her gaze outdoor where she hopes to make it to the final of the 100m final at the 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September.

If she makes it, she will be making history as the first Italian woman to do so.

‘I feel amazing because I came here today to win, and I am happy I managed to do so. Last year, I had a lot of ups and downs.

‘This year, I have a lot of expectations. The only thing I want to do is winning at every competition. My goal is to be the first Italian woman to qualify for the 100m final at the World Championships,’ she said after her 60m triumph.

Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Mujinga Kambundji who ran a 7.02 personal season’s best to win the silver medal behind Dosso is not disappointed she could not get the gold.

‘It was the goal to get a medal and everyone wants the gold. But I am happy with the silver medal. It was a tough field, and it was a good race.

‘And it was a successful championship for us. I am proud of my sister (Ditaji ran a 7.67 European and Championship record as well as the world lead to win the women’s 60m hurdles), she did an amazing job. It makes me really proud to see her like that,’ she said post-race.
