D’Tigers Roar Past Tunisia to Secure Second AfroBasket Win in Angola
In a commanding display of grit and teamwork, Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, clinched their second consecutive victory at the ongoing 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Championship in Luanda, Angola, overpowering Tunisia 87–66 in a high-stakes Group B clash.
From the opening tip-off at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda, D’Tigers asserted dominance, racing to a 29–16 lead in the first quarter. With Josh Okogie leading the charge and dropping a game-high 32 points, Nigeria maintained control throughout, outscoring Tunisia in three of four quarters and never relinquishing the lead for a single second.
Tunisia, two-time AfroBasket champions, struggled to match Nigeria’s pace and precision. Despite a late fourth-quarter push, the North Africans couldn’t close the gap, as Nigeria’s defense held firm and their offense remained fluid. The biggest scoring run of the game—a 10–0 burst—came from Nigeria, underscoring their tactical superiority.
Before the match, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) President, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, had issued a stirring call to the team: ‘Stay focused, stay humble, and play with the same intensity and teamwork that brought us the first win,’ he urged. His message resonated deeply, as D’Tigers embodied resilience, excellence, and national pride on the court.
Kida’s emphasis on humility and hunger was evident in the team’s discipline and cohesion. Nigeria’s shooting efficiency—65.62% from two-point range and 75% from the free-throw line—reflected a squad locked in and executing with purpose.
With this win, Nigeria strengthens its position atop Group B and moves closer to automatic qualification for the quarterfinals. The victory also sends a clear message: D’Tigers are not just contenders—they’re on a mission.
