D’Tigress’ historic run rated among the top 10 stories of the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024

FIBA, the world governing body for the sport of Basketball has rated Nigeria’s D’Tigress’ fantastic and historic run as one of the top 10 countless historical and magical moments in the competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Labelled as the best Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament in history, FIBA says there was so much for everyone to love both on and off the court at Paris 2024 in its review of year 2024 on its website.

The Nigerian ladies made history with some scintillating performances as they reached the last eight of the Olympics for the first time ever. It was also a first by an African team.

FIBA wrote: ‘Perhaps the best campaign by any underdog in the competition ever. This was simply remarkable by Nigeria who won for the first time in the Group stage, became the first African team to win twice at the event and then topped it by becoming the first African nation (women or men) to reach the Quarterfinals.

‘Their playcaller Rene Wakama walked off deservedly with the Best Coach accolade, with Ezinne Kalu starring on the court with her leadership and skills.’
