D’Tigress: ‘Make una no fold, we are equal to the USA task’

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress say they are not moved by FIBA experts’ predictions that expected their exit at the quarterfinal stage of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Nigerians face the USA in the quarterfinal and experts believe the Americans will make it 6-0 in head-to-head clashes against D’Tigress.

Mark Clark, a veteran coach and long-time commentator for FIBA Media summed up the experts view thus: ‘The Cinderella ride and heart-felt storyline of Nigeria winning their way to the quarterfinals, becoming the first African team to reach the knock-out stage, is worthy of praise.

‘But the luck of the draw brings this fairytale to an early end as Nigeria face USA. Behind stars Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson, USA have averaged a tournament-best 92 points per game, shot 49 percent from the floor and averaged 49 rebounds per game.

‘Ezinne Kalu and Nigerian teammates have led the group stage in steals with 13.3 per game but also managed only 69.3 points per game. USA will roll to a big win, but Nigeria will have their spotlight moment, showing potential for a bright future for the African nations.’

D’Tigress have taken to the social media page to assure Nigerians the experts can have their says but they are determined to have their way.

‘The experts have made their picks, don’t sleep on the D’Tigresses. Make una no fold. We are equal to the task,’ they wrote and insist they are in Paris for business.

‘World #3, dem collect. World #5, dem collect. Don’t sleep on the D’Tigresses. We no dey look face!’ they wrote in pidgin English.
