Eagles Euro Preview: Ndidi out to avoid equaling an unwanted personal record; Lookman looking for first win in five games vs Inter Milan

Wilfred Ndidi will be out to avoid equaling an unwanted personal record when he files out with Leicester City in their Premier League matchweek 29 tie against Manchester United at the King Power stadium on Sunday.

The Nigerian has lost eight times in 12 appearances against the Red Devils in the competition and another loss on Sunday will make it his ninth to equal the number of defeats he has suffered against a Premier League side since he joined the Foxes in January 2017.

Ndidi’s nine defeats in 12 games against Arsenal are the most he has suffered against a team in the competition.

Meanwhile, Ndidi will also be making his 295th appearance across all competitions with 212 coming in the Premier League where he has scored seven of his 18 goals against six teams.

The 28-year-old will be looking to score against Manchester United for the first in 12 games in the competition to make the Red Devils the seventh Premier League side he would score against.

At the Craven Cottage, Alex Iwobi will be keen to make it a record extending 221 starts in 282 Premier League games as he seeks to score his first goal in 15 appearances against Tottenham Hotspur across all competitions.

The 28-year-old will also be eager to score for the eighth time this term to extend his personal season’s scoring record.

Iwobi’s compatriot at the club, Calvin Bassey will also be seeking to score for the second time this season to set a personal season’s scoring record.

The Nigerian scored once in 29 appearances in the competition last season and has scored once in 27 games so far this season. He will also be seeking for his second win in four games against the north London side.

He has kept 10 clean sheets as a defender so far in the 56 Premier League games he has featured in since he joined Fulham last season and will be hoping for his 11th and his second in four games against Tottenham Hotspur.

In Italy, Ademola Lookman will be looking to make his 110th appearance for Atalanta in their top of the table Serie A clash against Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old has scored 50 goals and contributed 22 assists in the 109 games he has played across all competitions thus far with 37 of the goals coming in the 84 appearances he has made in the Serie A.

Lookman will also be looking for his first win in five games against the Nerazzurri who he has scored only once against in four games.

Inter top the Serie A table with 61 points from 28 games, one point more than Napoli in second and three more than Lookman’s Atalanta who are third on the log.

Still in Italy, Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will be seeking to make his first Serie A appearance this month when his club, SS Lazio visit the Renato Dell’Ara Stadium where they will face their host, Bologna in a Serie A matchweek 29 game.

Dele-Bashiru returned to Europa League action on last mid-week after an ankle injury stopped him from the first leg of Lazio’s game against Viktoria Plzen.

After playing for the final 11 minutes of the return leg of the Europa League tie, the Nigerian will be hoping to make his 10th start in 17 Serie A games.

At the Jan Breydel Stadion in Brugge, Belgium, Raphael Onyedika will be aiming to help his club, Club Brugge bounce back from their 6-1 aggregate loss to Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League as they continue their bid for an instant return to European’s biggest club competition next season.

Onyedika has started 20 of the 24 games he has featured in so far in the competition and will be eager for his 25th start and he hopes to lead Club Brugge to their 17th win of the season.

At the Celtic Park in Glasgow, Cyriel Dessers and Leon Balogun will be looking to help Rangers record a win away from home over their bitter rivals.

Dessers has scored 11 times in 26 Scottish Premiership appearances so far this year with none of the goals coming against Celtic although the 30-year-old has scored just once in eight appearances against their host this Sunday.

Curiously, he has lost in six of the eight games, winning just once, nearly the same horrible record Balogun has had against Celtic (won two, drawn two and lost four).
