Ebere Eze secures first point for Crystal Palace against Chelsea in seven years

A wonderful finish from Eberechi Eze on 53 minutes was enough to earn Crystal Palace their first point against Chelsea in seven years.

Chelsea thought they were going to roll over the Eagles like they did at Wolves last week when they pumped in six goals but Palace, led by the mercurial Eze were determined to not only secure their first point of the season in three games but also their first against the west London side since they won 2-1 at Selhurst Park in October 2017 courtesy of a Cesar Azpilicueta own goal and Wilfred Zaha’s 45th minute strike.

The goal was also Eze’s first in eight games against Chelsea while the point is also his first against the former UEFA Champions League winner.

Nicholas Jackson had given Chelsea a 25th minute lead when he coolly finished a sweeping counter-attacking move started by last week’s hat-trick hero at Wolves, Noni Madueke fed a through pass to Cole Palmer, who in turn squared to Jackson to slide in.

Eze would however equalized eight minutes after the restart when he deliciously bent the ball into the top corner from the edge of the Chelsea box.
