Edo State Deputy Governor Did Not Order Postponement of Edo FA LG Election

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has not halted the Edo FA Local Government elections scheduled for Tuesday 11th April 2023.

Ebomhiana Musa, Chief Press Secretary to Shaibu said in a statement after it was claimed that the Edo State Deputy Governor has halted the elections, describing the claim as ‘unfounded and can best be described as garbage dished out by some social media rats’.

‘The state’s number 2 citizen is no doubt a lover of football – he played to a top level of the game and has been supporting its growth in Nigeria and indeed globally.

Therefore, it is important to state clearly that he has no hand in such a wicked claim.’ said Musa.

He revealed that the Edo State Football Association is an entity under the leadership of Comrade Roland Abu and supervised by the Edo State Sports Commission headed by Mr Yussuf Alli (OLY).

‘To a large extent, the Commission is an independent body overseeing sports in the state including football.

‘The hands of the Deputy Governor are full of official responsibilities. So, he has not got the luxury of time seeing to the day-to-day running of the Sports Commission.’

Musa added that it is the constitutional duty of the FA (Chairman and board members/electoral committee) to determine when and how an election will be conducted in line with the extant laws.

‘Of course, the Commission has to be carried along. I urge the general public, especially football stakeholders to ignore the spurious claim.’

‘I also want to advise the unscrupulous elements spreading this shameful information to desist from it and stop dragging the name of the Deputy Governor into it.’
