Edo State Dominates 2nd Niger Delta Games Medal Table, Delta and Bayelsa Battle for Second

Edo State has surged ahead in the medal standings at the 2nd Niger Delta Games, establishing a commanding lead over its rivals.

With 29 gold medals, 12 silver, and 15 bronze, Edo’s total haul of 56 places it comfortably at the top of the table. Delta State, with 17 gold, 20 silver, and 15 bronze for a total of 52, is locked in a close battle with Bayelsa, which has 13 gold, 8 silver, and 12 bronze, totaling 33.

Edo’s dominance has been fueled by standout performances in athletics, where the state secured 13 medals, and swimming, which contributed 18. Taekwondo has also been a stronghold, delivering eight medals to Edo’s tally.

Delta, meanwhile, has shown consistency across multiple sports, while Bayelsa continues to push hard to secure second place.

Akwa Ibom sits in fourth position with 27 medals, including 6 gold, while Rivers follows closely with 26 medals, though only 3 of them are gold. Abia has managed 17 medals, driven largely by its 10 silver finishes, while Cross River, Imo, and Ondo round out the standings with totals of 18, 14, and 12 respectively.

The competition remains fierce, but Edo’s commanding lead suggests it will take something extraordinary for any other state to catch them before the Games conclude.
