Ejuke: Coming to Sevilla is the best decision I have made up until now’
Chidera Ejuke says signing for Sevilla is the best decision he has ‘up until now.’
The Nigerian will become a free agent at the end of the month after signing a one year deal with Belgian Pro League side, Royal Antwerp in July 2023.
The 26 year old has decided to move to Spain and has signed with Sevilla who finished 14th in the league last season but the Nigerian says he joined because of the club’s recent history and the desire to get back to Europe where they have had successes in the Europa League.
‘Sevilla are a big club, they want to get back to playing in Europe. They have won seven Europe League titles and the aim is to get back there and to where Sevilla belongs.
‘Coming to Sevilla is the best decision I have made up until now and I hope to play in front of the fans in the next few weeks and wear the shirt. I can’t wait to get started and I hope to contribute with my performances, showing the courage and bravery that all Nigerians have.’
Ejuke is excited to become the first Nigerian to play for Seviila.
‘It’s a special feeling to be the first Nigerian. But it just feels good to be part of this team and I’m looking forward to contributing what I can. I hope that I can return to the Nigerian side, it’s always nice to represent your country. So hopefully this will be the time to do that again.”
The Nigerian also spoke about his style of play and preferred position.
‘I’m a player who likes to enjoy football and have fun on the pitch. I can contribute a lot of things – passing, dribbling, speed, working hard for my teammates.
‘Primarily, I like to play on the left wing but I can adapt to play on both sides. It’s not too much of a challenge because normally I have to do that. But I mainly prefer to play on the left.
‘In reality it’s not really a comparison but I like the way Neymar plays. I think he’s really good in his position, the best in fact. I enjoy watching him on the pitch and seeing what he does, the way he contributes to football.”
