Enekwechi Hits 20.82m Season’s Best to Top World Shot Put Rankings

Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has begun the 2026 season in emphatic fashion, winning the men’s Shot Put event at the Orlen Cup Łódź in Poland, a World Athletics Indoor Tour – Silver meet.
The African Record holder produced a season’s best of 20.82m to claim victory, finishing ahead of Romania’s Andrei Toader, who managed 20.55m, and Serbia’s Armin Sinančević, who placed third with 19.93m.
Enekwechi opened strongly with a throw of 20.36m to take the lead, fouled his second attempt, but then extended his advantage with the winning mark of 20.82m.
The multiple African Games and African Championships winner continues to underline his dominance in the discipline.
Last season, Enekwechi made history as the first Nigerian to surpass the 22m barrier, cementing his place among the world’s elite.
His latest performance suggests he is on course for another eventful and successful year, now sitting at the top of the global rankings in shot put.
