Enekwechi Hits Season’s Best 21.28m for Third in Belgrade, Moves to Fourth on 2026 World List
Okezie second in 400m, Usoro absent in Long Jump
Multiple African Games and Championships medalist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, reached the 21m mark for the first time this season at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting, a World Athletics Indoor Tour – Gold event.
The 33-year-old achieved the distance twice, first with a 21.12m effort in the third round before improving to 21.28m in the fourth. That mark secured him third place overall and set a new season’s best, moving him up to fourth on the 2026 world top list.
The event was won by American thrower Roger Steen, who produced a world-leading 22.07m in his sixth and final attempt, having equaled the previous lead of 22.04m in the opening round.
Fellow American Jordan Geist, who entered the competition with the 22.04m world lead, failed to hit and surpass the 22m mark and settled for second place with a 21.51m throw in the fifth round.
In the men’s 400m Final B, Nigeria’s Chidi Okezie finished second in 47.11s behind Belgian Alexander Doom, who clocked 46.84s.
Meanwhile, Ruth Usoro was a notable absentee from the women’s long jump despite being listed among the registered athletes. The event was won by home favourite Milica Gardašević, who leapt to a season’s best of 6.61m in the third round.
