Enekwechi listed for Rome Diamond League meeting

Multiple African Shot Put champion and Paris 2024 Olympics finalist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will be among the stellar cast of athletes’ organizers have confirmed for the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, the thirteenth leg of the Wanda Diamond League, scheduled for Friday 30 August at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, Italy.
Enekwechi finished sixth in Paris and is also in the sixth and qualifying slot for the Diamond League final set for Brussels, Belgium in September.
The Nigerian, 31, has been among the top 10 shot putters in the world this year and confirmed his ranking as such at the Olympics.
Enekwechi will now be aiming for a place in what will be his first Diamond League final, five years after he made his debut in the competition, incidentally in Rome in 2019.
The African Games and African Athletics Championships winner made his debut in the competition this year at the Prefontaine Classics in Eugene, Oregon, USA in May and finished third to garner six points.
Sportsnow has not confirmed if the 2022 World Athletics Championships finalist will be in Silesia on August 25 but the Nigerian will have to either keep or improve on his sixth place to secure his passage to the final.
Enekwechi will face familiar foes in Rome, most of whom he competed against in the final of the event at the Paris Olympics led by world record-holder Ryan Crouser who won the gold as well as fellow medalists – Joe Kovacs and Rajindra Campbell.
