Enekwechi remains fifth in Diamond League Shot Put rankings despite finishing sixth in Rome

Reigning African Games gold medalist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is still on course to competing in his first Diamond League final after throwing 21.00m to finish sixth at the Golden Gala Diamond League Meeting in Rome, Italy on Friday evening.

The Nigerian has now garnered 13 points from three Diamond League meetings and will throw himself into the final if he competes at the Weltklasse Diamond Legue meeting in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday September 5, 2024, and finish at least sixth.

He earned six points for finishing third in Eugene in May and four for finishing fifth in Silesia, Poland last week and three points for finishing sixth in Rome on Friday evening.

Enekwechi will be looking to become the first Nigerian field eventer to win a Diamond League title after long jumper, Ese Brume lost on countback last year.

Tobi Amusan remains the only Nigerian to have won a Diamond League discipline but will not be in Brussels next month to defend the title she has won three times in a row unless she gets a wild card from the organizers.
