Enekwechi returns to action after third straight African Championships Shot Put gold

Reigning African Games and African Athletics Championships shot put champion, Chukwuebuka Cornnell Enekwechi will be in action Tuesday at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, one of the 2024 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold events.

The Nigerian secured his third straight African Athletics Championships gold in the Shot Put last month in Douala, Cameroon at the 23rd edition of the competition and the 31 year old will resume action on the field as he continues preparations for his second Olympic Games.

Enekwechi is making his second straight return to Szekesfehervar after finishing ninth last year. It is also his return trip to the event after debuting in 2021, throwing 21.43m to place fourth.

The four-time Nigeria champion and Commonwealth Games silver medalist will be keen to up his game as he bids for a better placing in the event at the Olympics in Paris, France next month when the athletics event starts.

Three years ago, Enekwechi was among the 12 that secured passage to the final of the event in Tokyo but the Nigerian placed last (12th) in the final classification.
