Enekwechi set for third trip to Rome for Diamond League action; Brume, Akintola storm Tennessee for Music City Track Carnival
African Shot Put king, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will be one of the 10 athletes that will battle for the top prize and maximum points on offer when the 2025 Diamond League train makes its fifth of 15 scheduled stop at the Golden Gala in Rome on June 6, 2025.
The Nigerian made his 2025 Diamond League debut in Rabat, Morocco last week finishing seventh with his 21.38m fourth round effort.
The 32-year-old will be hoping to do much better than he did in Rabat and than he has done on his two previous visits to the Italian capital.
The first time he visited in 2019, he placed eighth with his 20.54m throw but improved five years later when he threw 21.00m to finish sixth.
Meanwhile, sprinter, Alaba Akintola and long jumper, Ese Brume will be in action this weekend at the 2025 Music City Track Carnival set to take place at the Ray Conn Sports Complex on the campus of Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
The USATF-sanctioned meet is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour (Challenger Level).
Akintola, 23, will run in the 200m on Friday evening and has been drawn in the first heat. He holds a 20.50 personal season’s best, the second joint fastest time by a Nigerian so far this season.
Brume, whose 6.70m leap at the adidas Atlanta City Games about a fortnight ago seemed to suggest she is back to form, will be keen to leap even further as she prepares to make further history as the first Nigerian to win a World Championships medal in the same event in three different editions of World Athletics’ flagship event.
