Enekwechi Targets Second European Indoor Tour Victory Thursday in Liévin
Nigeria and African Shot Put record holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will be aiming for his second European Indoor Tour victory of the season when he competes at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event, at the Arena Stade Couvert in Liévin on Thursday.
The 33-year-old multiple African medalists opened his season with a commanding win at the Orlen Cup in Łódź, Poland, where he threw 20.82m to secure his first-ever European Indoor Tour triumph.
Having already surpassed the 21m mark this season with a 21.28m effort in Belgrade last week, Enekwechi knows he must go even further to challenge for another victory against a world-class field.
His rivals in Liévin include world leader Roger Stein of the USA, who has thrown 22.07m this year, Jamaica’s Paris Olympic bronze medalist Rajindra Campbell, Leonardo Fabbri, Italy’s 2023 World Championships silver medalist, as well as American duo Josh Awotunde and Joe Kovacs, the two-time world champion and three-time Olympic silver medalist.
Enekwechi is determined to build momentum ahead of the World Indoor Championships next month in Poland as well as the outdoor season and strengthen his credentials as one of Africa’s leading field athletes.
