Enekwechi’s late rally fetches him fifth place in Lievin

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi’s last round throw of 20.75m was not enough to get into the top three Thursday evening at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF, a World Athletics indoor tour gold meeting held at the Arena Stade Couvert in Liévin, France.

The Nigerian had only three valid throws in the competition won by Fabbri Leonardo, one of only three athletes to hit the 21m mark at the meeting.

The Italian threw above 21m five times in the competition after fouling his first-round effort. He won with 21.95m

For the Nigerian, his 20.26m first round throw was only bettered by Bukowieck Konrad’s 20.46m.

Enekwechi dropped to third in the second round with his no throw effort and Stanek Tomas’ 20.79m throw.

The 31-year-old dropped to fifth in the third round and sixth in the fifth round before his final round throw of 20.75m returned him to fifth and relegated Bukowieck.

Enekwechi is still looking for his first 21m throw of the season as he prepares for his second World indoor championships.
