Enoh inaugurates seven-man committee, says those who failed to register Ofili in 100m event must be identified and punished

Sports Development Minister, John Enoh says he inaugurated, Wednesday, a seven-man committee to investigate the negative exposures the country was subjected to at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games because of the need to apportion blame and punish those behind the disgraceful behaviors and acts.

Enoh, who has been blamed as a man who can only bark but not bite seems to want to change the narrative, including his portrayal by The Punch newspaper in its editorial, as one who has no clue about sports administration.

The Minister, after the inauguration, took to his X handle to reveal why it has become necessary to have the investigation and why he chose the seven people to do the work.

‘Today, we set up a 7-Member Committee to investigate the negative exposures the country was subjected to at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games.

‘As part of the terms of reference, the committee is saddled with the responsibility of revisiting the issues that exposed the nation inappropriately, including the omission of Favour Ofili’s name (from the 100m event), doping issues surrounding some of the athletes at the Olympics and Paralympics, the alleged contract agreement between Actively Black and the Nigeria Olympic Committee, code of conduct amongst Team Nigeria members amongst others,’ he wrote.

Enoh believes impunity thrives when there are no consequences for bad behaviour.

‘It is only when we seriously and properly address these issues, instead of sweeping them under the carpet, can we pave a positive way forward.

‘The inaugurated Committee has Dr Mumuni Alao as Chairman while other members and secretary of the committee are as follows; Aliyu Mohammed (NW)-Member, Hajia Rakiya Muhammed (NC)-Member, Godwin Enakhena (SS)-Member, Dr Abubakar Ango (NE)-Member, Nnene Akudo (SE)-Member and Barr Victor Okangbe(SS)Secretary.

‘Selected sports enthusiasts with a reputation to protect make up this committee, they are not from the Sports Ministry or any of the groups involved in the execution of the just concluded games because we want blame to be apportioned to those who should be blamed, and consequences earned.

‘If we must pave a way forward, we must not sweep these issues under the carpet,’ he wrote.
