Enugu City Marathon unveils $50,000 top prize money for May 3 race
The prize money structure for the Enugu City Marathon has been unveiled with elite runners earning as much as $50,000 for first place while the winners of the Nigerian category will go home with N2m.
According to the website of the race, the total prize purse for the elite athletes will be $256,000 with second and third place earning $20,000 and $15,000 respectively while the eighth placed runner will go home with $1,000.
For the ‘Nigerian runners,’ a total prize purse of N11m will be on offer with second and third place finishers earning N1,5m and N1m respectively.
The event, to be managed by Nilayo Sports Management Company, organisers of the gold label Lagos City Marathon, has been scheduled to hold on May 3, 2025.
Registration for the event has since commenced with runners expected from across Nigeria and beyond.
The race will be flagged off at 6.30am at the Shoprite, Polo Park Road, GRA in Enugu and participants are expected to race through a carefully curated route, highlighting iconic landmarks such as Coal Camp Road, Independence Avenue, Zik Avenue, Okpara Square Road, Presidential Road, N.T.A Road, Market Square, and the Ebe Ano Tunnel Road before terminating at the Main Bowl of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
According to the event’s website, The route was designed to showcase the charm of Enugu and celebrate its vibrant cityscape.
Meanwhile, registered participants can start collecting their bibs and goodies bags from April 28th to May 9th, 2025, ensuring they’re well-equipped for race day.
