Rangers out of CAF Champions League after losing 3-1 in Angola

Enyimba of Aba may draw Egyptian side, Zamalek, USM Alger of Algeria, CS Sfaxien, RS Berkane of Morocco or West African sides, ASEC Mimosas or Malian Stade Malien in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Burkina Faso side, Étoile Filante on penalties in Uyo after a goalless draw in regulation time.

The Aba-based side are yet to score a goal in four consecutive matches on the continent. It is their longest ever run without a goal on the continent.

The draw for the group phase will hold on October 7 with Enyimba in pot 3 with eight others.

Enyimba are among the 16 winners of the second round of qualifying rounds. The 16 teams will be drawn into four groups of four.

The teams have been seeded by their performances in the CAF competitions for the previous five seasons.

Each group will contain one team from each of Pot 1 and Pot 2, and two teams from Pot 3, and each team will be allocated to the positions in their group according to their pot.

Meanwhile, Nigerian league champions, Rangers international of Enugu are out of the CAF Champions League after losing 3-1 in Angola to Sagrada Esperanca.

The ‘Flying Antelopes’ are now the first Nigerian club to lose to an Angolan club twice on the continent since they lost 3-1 to Recreativo do Libobo in 2013.
