Ese Brume to open 2023 long jump outdoor campaign in Botswana

Ese Brume will open her 2023 outdoor campaign in the long jump at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in Gaborone on April 29.

The 27 year old has been running on the track since the begining of the year.

She started with the 300m event at the 1st ACAN Meet in Ijebu Ode where she set a 42.71 personal best in January before travelling to the USA where she ran
in the 4x100m at the Texas Relays and the 400m event at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational in Houston, Texas.

Brume looks ready to begin her campaign for another trip to the podium at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August.

The soft spoken and humble Brume will headline the women’s long jump event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series meeting.

The Nigerian will be joined in the field by African champion Marthe Koala of Burkina Faso and German Olympian Maryse Luzolo.

Last year she opened her long jump campaign with a wind-aided 7.08m at the LSU Alumni Gold in Louisian and will be looking for another huge leap to set the tone for what is to come during the lead up to the World Championships.

Brume won silver at the World Indoor and outdoor championships last year in Belgrade, Serbia and Oregon, USA respectively to become only the second Nigerian
after Glory Alozie to win a world indoor and outdoor medal the same year.

She is also the second Nigerian after Alozie to win medals at the three major world championships viz the Olympics, World Indoor and outdoor championships.

Brume remains the only Nigerian to win two medals at the same event at the World Championships and the only one to ever win medals at the African
Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games, World Indoor Championships, World Outdoor championships and the Olympic Games.
