Eseme wins second Diamond League 100m race to move top of standings

Emmanuel Eseme sped to a 10.16 finish to win the 100m event at the BAUHAUS-Galan Diamond League meeting at the Olympiastadion in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden on Sunday evening.

It was the Cameroonian’s second Diamond League win of the season in the event after running 10.11 to win at the Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athlétisme Diamond League meeting in Rabat, Morocco last month.

The win in Stockholm has catapaulted the 30 year old Cameroun record holder (9.96) to the top of the 100m standing with 27 points, three more than Americam Christian Coleman as he bids for a place in the final of the event later this year.

Eseme was delighted with the win and has set his target on adding the African Championships title to the African Games gold he won last March in Accra, Ghana.

‘I just told myself to stick to the guys during the first part of the race, and I am really happy to come back with a second Diamond League victory this season. My season has gone pretty well so far thanks to my training setting in Portugal. Compared to last year I worked on my acceleration part and it paid off. Next up are the African Championships where I want to perform well,’ he said in his post race comment.

Eseme will be bidding to become the first Cameroon man to win the 100m gold at the African Championships after making history as the first to win an African Games 100m gold in Accra, Ghana in March.
