Ezekiel Adamu Targets Long-Term Value Creation Through Nigerian Boxing
Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, Group CEO of Balmoral and promoter of Africa’s biggest boxing event, Chaos in the Ring, has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Nigerian boxing into a major driver of economic growth.
With the flagship event set for May 1, 2026, Adamu stressed that the concept extends far beyond fight-night entertainment, aiming to build a sustainable experiential economy with global reach.
Adamu explained that the initiative is designed to evolve into one of Africa’s leading experiential platforms, with aspirations of eventually listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
‘We are building towards becoming one of Africa’s leading experiential platforms, with ambitions that go well beyond boxing. The goal is to create a large-scale business capable of eventually accessing the public markets,’ he said.
He described the project as part of a broader cultural economy, connecting African talent with visibility and monetisation opportunities worldwide. Partnerships with international promoters and streaming giant DAZN, alongside collaborations with former world champion Amir Khan, have already generated tens of millions of impressions, positioning Lagos as an emerging boxing capital.
The event will feature a WBO All-Africa cruiserweight title clash between Ezra Arenyeka and Godday Appah, billed as a ‘Peace Fight’ to ease tensions between the Ijaw and Itsekiri communities in the Niger Delta. The winner will be named Peace Ambassador for the region.
Teenage sensation Raheem Animashaun, the youngest West African Boxing Union super-lightweight champion, is set to face Tanzanian veteran Emmanuel Amos.
Adamu revealed that Animashaun recently secured a deal with a major international boxing platform, underscoring the event’s growing global appeal.
Other bouts include Ghana’s Elvis Ahorgah against Newcastle’s Joe Laws, British southpaw Michael McKinson versus Algerian prospect Mohammad Sahnoun, national middleweight champion Rasheed Adeyemo against Tanzanian Nicolaus Mdoe, and a welterweight clash between UK-based Ghanaian Samuel Antwi and Congolese veteran Paul Kamanga.
A celebrity showdown between musicians Portable and Carter Efe will headline the entertainment segment, with Nigeria Boxing Board of Control president Dr. Rafiu Ladipo confirming that all fighters, including celebrities, will undergo full medical screening.
Adamu emphasized that Chaos in the Ring is about more than boxing.
‘Every event activates multiple layers of the economy, hospitality, logistics, media, security, transportation, and digital distribution. Once you deliver consistently and fans enjoy the experience, this becomes a major platform,’ he said.
