Ezekiel: Enyimba ‘Too Big to Go Down’
Winger Confident Club Will Avoid NPFL Relegation
Edidiong Ezekiel has backed Enyimba to finish the season strongly despite their struggles in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The People’s Elephant, Nigeria’s record nine-time champions, defeated Abia Warriors on Sunday to climb to 15th place with 39 points from 32 matches, just two points above the relegation zone.
With six games left, Ezekiel insists belief and consistency will be key to survival.
‘Obviously, what we need now as a club is to believe; we have to believe that we will get out of the drop zone,’ he told the club’s official website.
‘By winning all our remaining home games while we try to pick something away from home.’
The winger expressed confidence that Enyimba’s stature will help them avoid relegation for the first time in nearly four decades.
‘Enyimba is inarguably the biggest team in Nigeria. To think that we will occupy our current position is weird. But I personally believe, and I am confident we’ll escape the drop.’
Ezekiel also appealed to fans to remain steadfast in their support despite the club’s poor campaign.
‘I want to urge fans of the People’s Elephant to please continue to give us their support. By the end of the season, we’ll escape the drop zone.’
Enyimba will next face Wikki Tourists in Lafia on Saturday in a crucial Matchday 33 fixture as they fight to preserve their topflight status.
