Favour Ashe wants to equal or break Deji Aliu’s 6.48 Nigeria 60m indoor record
Named Auburn track and field male athlete of the week
Favour Ashe is gunning for one of his former coaches, Deji Aliu’s 6.48 Nigeria 60m indoor record at next weekend’s South Eastern Conference, SEC’s Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The 20 year old who has been named Auburn track and field male athlete of the week ran a new 6.53 personal season’s best last weekend at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina which catarpaulted him to the number one spot in the SEC.
The time is also number two in Auburn University’s history, number three in the 2023 NCAA season and number one in the African indoor list so far this season.
Ashe, who will be 21 in April wants to break new grounds this season by becoming the third Nigerian sprinter ever to run inside 6.50 in the 60m event after Aliu (6.48) and Olusoji Fasuba (6.49).
The Nigerian said in a video interview on his school’s twitter page that his goal is to run a sub-6.50 over the 60m event.
Asked what his goals are for the SEC Championships next weekend, Ashe says he wants to break 6.50.
‘I am looking forward to lowering my personal best, at least doing 6.48, 6.49 and then know, yea… I want to be SEC Champion.’
Ashe will also be eager to make amends for his disqualification at the same Championships held at the Gilliam Indoor Track, College Station in Texas.
He holds a 6.51 personal best in the event which ranks him joint fourth best in the Nigerian all-time list.
