Felix Agu Confident Werder Will Avoid Relegation, Welcomes Boniface Return

Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu has opened up about his fitness, contract talks, and his relationship with coach Daniel Thioune as the club battles to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.

Speaking to DeichStube, Agu admitted he was frustrated by his error in the 2-0 defeat to RB Leipzig but insisted he is regaining form after a long injury layoff.

‘Overall, I feel very good,’ he said, though he acknowledged he is not yet at full endurance.

Agu revealed he had actively campaigned for Thioune’s appointment, describing him as ‘a great coach’ who has supported him since his youth days at Osnabrück.

‘Daniel has known me since I was 14… he always saw something in me,’ Agu explained, adding that their relationship has grown through years of shared experiences.

On his future, Agu confirmed that initial discussions with Werder have taken place but no concrete decisions have been made.

‘I obviously feel pretty comfortable here. At the end of the season, I’ll have been at Werder for six years. You don’t stay that long without reason,’ he said, noting that he is relaxed about the situation and will revisit talks after the campaign.

Despite Werder’s struggles, Agu remains confident the team can secure survival. He pointed to upcoming fixtures against Cologne and Hamburg as ‘six-point games’ that could provide the biggest boost.

He also welcomed the return of striker Victor Boniface, praising his quality and potential impact in the final stretch of the season.

Addressing teammate Mitchell Weiser’s public criticism of the club’s management, Agu distanced himself from the remarks, saying: ‘That remains with him and Clemens [Fritz].’
