Fernandes joins elite list with second Player of the Matchweek honour of the season
Bruno Fernandes has once again underlined his importance to Manchester United after being voted Player of the Matchweek for the Premier League’s fifteenth round of fixtures.
The Portuguese midfielder, who also claimed the accolade in Matchweek 13, becomes only the second player this season to win the award twice, joining Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo in that distinction.
Fernandes produced a captain’s performance in United’s emphatic 4-1 victory away at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He opened the scoring with a sharp finish, then showcased his vision by lofting a perfectly weighted pass for Mason Mount to add United’s third. Later, he calmly converted from the penalty spot to seal the win, taking his combined tally of goals and assists in the league to ten.
The result lifted United to sixth place, just a point shy of the Champions League positions.
Fans rewarded Fernandes’ brilliance with 50 per cent of the vote, comfortably ahead of Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki on 14 per cent. Other nominees included Anton Stach, Phil Foden, Xavi Simons, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Boubacar Kamara, and Adam Wharton.
This latest honour adds to a growing list of standout performers across the season, with previous winners including Gabriel Gudmundsson, Eberechi Eze, Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland, and Richarlison.
