FIBA U18 Afrobasket: J’Tigers bounce back to beat Angola 70-65

Nigeria’s U18 junior men’s basketball team, J’Tigers bounced back from their 70-57 opening group game loss to Egypt on Wednesday to beat Angola 70-65 in their second game.

The much-rested Nigerians led in the first two quarters 20-18, 12-6 but almost threw the lead away in the third quarter when they lost 25-15 to the Angolans.

They however bounced back in the fourth and final quarter to win 23-16 and have boosted their chances of making the knockout phase of the ongoing FIFA Africa U18 Afrobasket in Pretoria, South Africa.

The J’Tigers will now play Uganda in their final group B game on Tuesday. The Ugandans lost 73-50 to Egypt in their second group game. It was their second straight loss as they had earlier crashed 89-73 to Angola last Wednesday.

The teams that finish in the top two places of each group and the two best third-placed teams will advance to the Semi-Finals.

And the finalists will earn the right to represent Africa at next year’s FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Switzerland.
