FIBA U18 Afrobasket: Travel-weary Junior D’Tigers lose 70-57 to Egypt

Travel-weary junior D’Tigers lost 70-57 in their opening group game at the FIBA U18 Afrobasket holding in Pretoria, South Africa.

The Nigerian teenagers, who arrived on match day from Nigeria after battling with visa issues won the first game 17-14 but lost the second quarter 23-15.

The Nigerians managed to win the third quarter by a narrow 16-15 before they succumbed to fatigue and lost the fourth quarter 18-9.

A much rested and revitalized Nigeria will next play Angola on Saturday before meeting Uganda on Tuesday.

Angola who defeated Uganda and Egypt are top of group and the teams that finish in the top two places of each group and the two best third-placed teams will advance to the Semi-Finals.

And the finalists will earn the right to represent Africa at next year’s FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Switzerland.
