FIFA unveils Falconets squad for Women’s U20 World Cup

Nigeria names three goalkeepers, eight defenders, five midfielders and five forwards for competition

FIFA has unveiled the Falconets squad list for its Women’s U20 World Cup which starts in just five days’ time in Colombia.

The world’s brightest emerging talents and future superstars of the women’s game will take to the field in South America from 31 August to 22 September 2024 and the 21 women that will don the country’s colours at the competition are now known.

The team is made up of three goalkeepers viz Bakare Shukura, Anderline Mgbechi and Faith Omilana, eight defenders, five midfielders and forwards each.

The defenders are Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Oyinlola Shakirat, Rofiat Imuran, Ohaegbulem Oluchi, Oladeji Oluwabunmi, Alani Jumoke, Oladipo Shukurat and Folorunsho Comfort.

The midfielders are Amina Bello, Yina Philomina, Olushola Shobowale, Olise Chioma and Joy Igbokwe.

The forwards, led by Ajakaiye Opeyemi also have Goodness Osigwe, Nkpa Lucky, Sabastine Flourish and Janet Akekoromowei from Asisat Oshoala Academy.

The coaching crew will be led by Christopher Danjuma who is the head coach. Former Super Falcons star, Effionwan Ekpo and Mansur Abdullahi are the first assistant coaches with Yahya Audu as the goalkeeping coach.

The Falconets will begin their campaign in the competition with a game against the Korea Republic at the El Techo Stadium stadium in Bogota on September 2, 2024.

The Nigerians will play their second group D game two days later at the same venue against three-time winners, Germany before facing Venezuela three days later at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero in Cali.
