FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup: Afolabi named player of the match in Flamingos’ big win
Flamingos of Nigeria captain, Taiwo Afolabi was named player of the match after inspiring the Nigerian U17 girls to an emphatic 4-1 win in their opening group game of the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Afolabi, the Flamingos’ No 10 bossed the midfield all day and got a goal for herself early in the second stanza by rising high to spin home a header, before Hannah Saxon tallied a consolation to give the Young Football Ferns a positive to end the day.
The Nigerians executed to perfection their coach, Bankole Olowookere’s an attacking philosophy as they smashed three past the hapless New Zealand u17 girls in the first 28 minutes of the game played at the at CFC Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros.
Shakirat Moshood (2), Khadijat Adegoke (13), Farihat Abdulwahab (28) scored the goals but it was Afolabi’s commanding display that caught the eyes.
