FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup Qualifier: Senegal’s Lionesses Arrive in Abeokuta for Falconets Showdown
Senegal’s U20 women’s team, the Lionesses de Téranga, have settled into Abeokuta, Ogun State, ahead of their clash with Nigeria’s Falconets in the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup third round qualifiers.
The delegation touched down in Lagos on Tuesday night before making the road trip to Abeokuta, where they are scheduled to hold their first training session on Wednesday evening.
The encounter with Nigeria marks the first leg of the penultimate round of qualifiers, with the aggregate winner set to face either Guinea Bissau or Malawi for a coveted ticket to the final tournament in Poland later this year.
CAF has appointed match officials from Uganda and Burundi to oversee Saturday’s contest. Ugandan referee Diana Murungi will take charge, assisted by compatriots Immaculate Ongiera and Elizabeth Nassolo. Burundi’s Suavis Iratunga will serve as the fourth official.
Ghanaian Christine Ziga has been named match commissioner, while Gabon’s Berthe Minka will act as referee assessor.
The Falconets, perennial contenders on the continental stage, will be aiming to assert their dominance at home, while Senegal’s Lionesses de Téranga are determined to upset the balance and strengthen their bid for a World Cup berth.
