FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup: Szenk says Germany will give everything for a fifth win Vs Nigeria

Germany U20 side will be aiming for their fifth win against Nigeria in their FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup second Group game on Wednesday night (in Nigeria) at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, Colombia and Nia Szenk says they are ready to give their all for the game.

In an interview with DFB, Szenk reveals they are ready to go toe to toe with the physically imposing Nigerians.

Asked which of their strengths they will have to bring to the pitch to be able to hold their own against the Falconets, Szenk says they will go into every duel with 100 percent effort.

‘We have to be prepared for the Nigerians to go into the game with a lot of speed and robustness. We have to stand up to them and go into every duel with 100 percent. It’s important that we stay calm and use our scoring chances effectively. We just have to give everything until the last minute,’ said the Germany Women’s U20 star.

Nigeria has met Germany four times in the competition and have lost on all occasions with two of the games in the final.

It started in 2004 at the quarterfinal stage where the Nigerians lost 5-4 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

In 2010, the Falconets got to the final of the competition and lost 2-0 to Germany. The same story was repeated four years later when the Nigerians lost in the final to a
Lena Petermann’ goal in the 98th minute after extra time.

In 2018, the two countries met in the first game of their group and the Germans won 1-0 via a 69th minute goal by Stefanie Antonia Sanders.
