Finidi: Amuneke is one of my closest friends and we talk regularly

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George says his appointment as the manager of the senior national team will not affect his relationship with Emmanuel Amuneke who he played with in an era that has been described as the golden era of Nigerian football.

Both Finidi and Amuneke jostled for the Super Eagles job before the pendulum swung on the side of Finidi.

‘Amuneke is one of my closest friends. We speak regularly and I don’t think me getting the job or he getting the job will define our relationships,’ Finidi said on Arise TV Wednesday morning.

Finidi also revealed he chose his assistants including Daniel Amokachi who many football enthusiast feel may cause problem in the team.

He also revealed he signed a two-year deal and not one that has been peddled in the media.

‘I signed a two-year deal that is performance-related and I have been saddled with the responsibility of returning Nigeria to the FIFA World Cup stage after we missed the cut for the 2022 edition in Qatar,’ said Finidi who revealed all coaches in the world have performance related clauses in their contracts.

Finidi also revealed the most senior player in the team will wear the captain’s arm band, technically resting insinuations that Victor Osimhen may be named captain of the team.
