Finidi Voted Best Coach of NPFL MatchDay 2 Games 

Former Nigeria international winger, Finidi George has been voted the coach of Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, matchday 2 games.

The former Ajax, Real Betis and Ipswich Town player led Rivers United to a 3-1 defeat of Emmanuel Amuneke’s Heartland of Owerri in Port Harcourt and has been adjudged the best coach of the week by the NPFL on its X handle.

Finidi George joined Rivers United as head coach after resigning his job as head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria following Nigeria’s unimpressive run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against South Africa and Republic of Benin.

Also named in the team of the week is Remo Stars’ Lalle Ibrahim Babawo who scored the only goal that gave the Ikenne-based victory in their Southwest derby against Sunshine Stars.

Also in is Kabir Abdullahi of Rivers United who scored two of the goals that condemned Amuneke to his second defeat of his debut NPFL campaign as coach.

Chimezie Njoku was a delight to watch at right back for Abia Warriors who were deprived of all three points at Akwa United by a 95th minute equalizer.

Azeez Falolu and Sani Naziru were instrumental to Katsina United’s 2-1 comeback defeat of visiting Bendel Insurance with the latter netting the winner on 94 minutes.

Rabiu Abdullahi of Bayelsa who scored the equalizer in the 1-1 against visiting Kano Pillars, Victor Dawa of Plateau United who opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw at Shooting Stars, Auwala Ali Malam who also scored first in the draw in Yenagoa as well as goalkeeper of Nasarawa United who stood between Niger Tornadoes and goals made the list.
