First Start, First Goal: Fernandez Celebrates Super Eagles Breakthrough

Emmanuel Fernandez, the Glasgow Rangers central defender, celebrated a dream debut for Nigeria’s Super Eagles by scoring his first international goal in his first start.
Fernandez, 24, was handed a starting role in Tuesday night’s friendly against Jordan in Turkey, stepping in for the absent Semi Ajayi.
He made his mark just before halftime, finding the net in the 41st minute to give Nigeria a 2–1 lead.
After the match, Fernandez expressed his delight on social media, posting: ‘Honoured and grateful to play for Nigeria… First start, first goal. Enjoyable experience.’
Since joining Rangers in 2025, Fernandez has featured 27 times for the Scottish giants, scoring six goals. #
His performance against Jordan adds another milestone to his growing career and strengthens his case for a regular role in Nigeria’s defense.
