Four Super Eagles Poised to Join Premier League’s Prestigious 100 Club as the 2025/26 Season Kicks Off This Weekend
As the curtain rises on the 2025/26 Premier League season this Friday, a new generation of Nigerian footballers is on the brink of etching their names into one of the league’s most respected milestones: the 100 Club.
Crossing the 100-appearance mark in the Premier League is more than a numerical feat — it’s a testament to consistency, resilience, and enduring quality in the world’s most competitive football league.
To date, 14 Nigerian players have reached or surpassed the century mark. Among them, legends like Shola Ameobi (298), Alex Iwobi (291), Nwankwo Kanu (273), John Obi Mikel (249), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), Victor Moses (220), Joseph Yobo (228), and Victor Anichebe (204) have gone even further, becoming icons of Nigerian excellence in English football.
Others such as Peter Odemwingie, Jay-Jay Okocha, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Celestine Babayaro made their mark before bowing out, each leaving behind unforgettable moments.
Now, a fresh wave of talent is stepping up. Three Nigerian players are set to join the 100 Club this season, while one — Alex Iwobi — is on the verge of making history as the first Nigerian to reach 300 Premier League appearances and surpass 20,000 minutes played.
Alex Iwobi – Fulham (291 appearances)
Iwobi is just nine games away from becoming the first Nigerian to reach 300 Premier League appearances. Having played for Arsenal, Everton, and now Fulham, his career has been defined by adaptability, professionalism, and quiet leadership. He’s also set to become the first Nigerian to exceed 20,000 minutes in the Premier League — a landmark that underscores his longevity and influence.
Ola Aina – Nottingham Forest (91 appearances)
Aina, a versatile full-back with stints at Chelsea and Fulham, is nine games shy of the 100 mark. Now a key figure in Forest’s defense, his tactical intelligence and flexibility make him a near-certainty to hit the milestone early this season.
Taiwo Awoniyi – Nottingham Forest (73 appearances)
Awoniyi burst onto the Premier League scene in 2022/23, famously scoring the goal that secured Forest’s survival. Though last season was quieter, he now sits on 73 appearances and needs 27 more to reach 100 — a realistic target if he stays fit and firing.
Frank Onyeka – Brentford (69 appearances)
Back from a loan spell in Germany, Onyeka returns to Brentford under new head coach Keith Andrews. With 69 appearances to date, he’ll need 31 more to join the 100 Club — a goal within reach if he reclaims a regular midfield role.
Calvin Bassey – Fulham (64 appearances)
After a strong debut season in 2023/24, Bassey featured in 35 of Fulham’s 38 matches. With 64 appearances under his belt, he’ll need 36 more this season to reach 100 — a target well within reach for the composed and versatile defender.
Emmanuel Dennis – Nottingham Forest (52 appearances)
Dennis, back from a loan spell, currently sits on 52 appearances. Known for his flair and unpredictability, he remains a dynamic option in attack. However, with 48 games still needed, Dennis may require two more full seasons to hit the century.
