Frank Onyeka: Playing for Super Eagles My Career’s Biggest Moment

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has described representing Nigeria as the highlight of his football career.

Onyeka, who made his debut for the national team in October 2020 during a 1-0 friendly defeat to Algeria, has since become a key figure in the squad.

The 28-year-old has earned 41 caps, scoring three goals and providing one assist. He featured prominently in the 2023 and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, helping Nigeria to silver and bronze medals respectively.

Speaking in a question-and-answer session posted by his new club Coventry City on Facebook, Onyeka was asked to name the biggest moment of his career. He replied: ‘Playing for my national team.’

The midfielder, nicknamed ‘Frank the Tank,’ joined Coventry City from Brentford during the winter transfer window. He promised fans energy and commitment, saying: ‘Expect Frank the Tank. You know what Frank the Tank means?’

Coventry City have indicated they will sign Onyeka permanently if they secure promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Nigerian had struggled for playing time at Brentford, spending last season on loan at Augsburg and failing to start a Premier League game before his move.

Despite club challenges, Onyeka insists his proudest achievement remains wearing the green and white of Nigeria.
