Galatasaray: Osimhen out of Champions League game against Frankfurt

Turkish Super Lig side, Galatasaray have officially announced its squad for the upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt, confirming that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will not be part of the traveling team.

The decision follows Osimhen’s recent injury sustained while on international duty with Nigeria, which also ruled him out of Galatasaray’s domestic match against Eyüpspor.

Despite hopes for a swift recovery, the club has opted to exclude the star forward from the opening group stage tie in Germany.

This marks the second consecutive year Osimhen will miss the Champions League opener due to injury, a setback for both the player and the team as they prepare to face Frankfurt on Thursday.

Osimhen has played 17 times in the competition across three seasons for two clubs viz Lille of France and Napoli. He started 15 of the 17 games, scored nine times and provided one assists.

The 26 year old had his most productive season in 2022/23 when he scored five goals in six appearances, helping Napoli to the quarterfinals, the club’s highest position in the competition.
