Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta coach, says Ademola Lookman is one of the best players in the world.
Gasperini hailed the Nigerian whose hat-trick inspired La Dea to their first European Cup triumph in May when they defeated previously unbeaten all-season Bayer Leverkusen in the final of the Europa League in an interview on the official Serie A channels on Christmas Day.
‘Lookman’s a top player. From a character point of view, there are perhaps players who have more continuity and are more solid, but that’s normal. Even the role itself favors more or less.
‘He must always be very fit, but he has become a truly extraordinary player, among the best in Europe and in the world. Because he has improved his continuity and in some respects, he has begun to be an Atalanta player,’ said Gasperini.
Lookman has continued to wax stronger right from when he led Nigeria to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in January/February this year to the Europa League final where his three goals ensured Atalanta were crowned champions.
This season, the 27 year old has scored 12 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions this year with nine of the goals coming in 14 Serie A games.
He also succeeded his compatriot, Victor Osimhen as the 2024 African player of the year.
