Gerard, Huntonto, Sewa Dazzle at Lagos 3-Day Swimming Clinics

The Lagos State Aquatic Association has concluded its 2025 three-day swimming clinics with standout performances from Dosun Gerard, Friday Huntonto, and Monday Sewa, who finished first, second, and third respectively in the 50m freestyle event.
The clinics, held under the banner ‘Makoko To the Lanes’ as part of the expanded Lagos Coastal Series, brought together more than 100 aspiring swimmers from riverine communities.
Certified coaches guided participants through basic techniques and advanced aspects of aquatic sport, with the initiative designed to expose youngsters to professional training, standard facilities, and opportunities to sharpen their skills.
All participants received swimming kits, exercise books, and other prizes to encourage continued learning and participation. Coach Christopher Azubuike praised the programme, stressing that Lagos is rich in talent but requires structured pathways to help athletes achieve their goals.
‘These young talents are from the riverine area, which means they already know how to swim, but they need proper structure to be able to do the sport in a professional way,’ he said.
Daniel Jasper, head coach of the Takwa Bay swimming club, also expressed satisfaction with the event, noting the enthusiasm and progress displayed by the participants.
The swimmers themselves commended the organiser, Mrs. Ajagbe Olubunmi, for creating another platform to nurture young talent. They also acknowledged the Lagos State Government for providing quality facilities that continue to support the growth of aquatic sports in the state.
