Germany centre back, Veit: We know how to handle Nigeria’s Falconets
Germany centre back Jella Veit believes the experience they had against the Flamingos, Nigeria’s women’s U17 team two years ago at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India will come in handy when they face the Nigerian women U20 team, the Falconets in their second group D game in Bogota, Colombia at the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup.
The Germans came from a Miracle Usani’s 30th minute goal to win 2-1 in their opening group B game two years ago.
Veit is confident they have the formular for the Nigerians when they meet on Wednesday September 4.
‘I already know Nigeria from the U-17 World Cup. They’re a fast team with a physical style of play, so against them we need to be a bit smarter and not let them get too close so we can take advantage. However, regardless of who we face, we have to stick to our plan and be true to ourselves,’ said Veit.
Veit was part of the Germany side that qualified for Colombia 2024 by reaching the final of the UEFA U-19 EURO in 2023 and says she and her colleagues know little about Venezuela and Korea who are also in the same group.
‘We’ll find out more about Venezuela and Korea when we do our final preparations, but I think Venezuela have a passing-based game, while the Koreans work a lot on details and put a big emphasis on technique. But it’s important in all games that we don’t get sidetracked and that we play to our strengths,’she said in an interview on FIFA website.
Germany is gunning for a hat-trick of wins after winning in 2004 and 2014.
