Gift Orban Handed Two-Match Ban in Serie A

Nigerian striker Gift Orban has been handed a two-match ban in Serie A, following his red card over the weekend in Hellas Verona’s 2-1 defeat against Parma in the league.

Orban, who joined Hellas Verona in the summer, was dismissed in the 11th minute of his side’s loss after protesting a challenge from Enrico Del Prato in the centre circle.

While running with the ball, Orban was pulled back by an opponent and the referee decided to wave play on. The decision angered the Super Eagles-invitee who approached the referee.

The official immediately reached out to his pocket for a red card.

According to Football Italia on Tuesday, the 23-year-old has now been further sanctioned “for his comments towards the match official.”

It was reported that some section of Parma fans directed racial slurs at the former Lyon forwars as he walked off the pitch.

Orban has been in solid form since joining Verona in the summer, registering seven goals and two assists in 22 league appearances.

The attacker will miss Verona’s trip to Sassuolo on Friday and the home clash against champions Napoli on February 28th.
