Gift Orban to end 2023 as Nigeria’s top scorer in Europe ahead of Osimhen, Boniface

KAA Gent of Belgium forward, Gift Orban will end 2023 as the most prolific Nigerian in Europe (major European leagues and cup competitions) with 32 goals.

The 21 year old joined Gent in January with a goal scoring reputation after netting 19 times in 24 games for Norwegian second division side, Stabæk.

Orban scored 20 times in 22 games in his first season with Gent and has netted 12 times in 18 games so far this season. He has a chance to score again before
the close of 2023 if he features at the Guldensporenstadion for Gent on Tuesday against Kortrijk in a Belgian Pro League matchweek 20 fixture.

Not minding if he scores on Tuesday, Organ has scored three more goals than Napoli Victor Osimhen who ended the 2022/23 season as the top scorer in the Serie
A. Osimhen netted 29 times in the outgoing year.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, who has taken the German Bundesliga by storm is third behind Orban and Osimhen with 26 goals, 16 of which came in 23
games for his new club this season.

While both Osimhen and Boniface are sure of making the final cut in Nigeria’s 27-man team to the Africa Cup of Nations which start in January in Ivory Coast,
Orban who has not scored in his last League games for Gent did not even make the provisional list released last week by Super Eagles gaffer, Jose Peseiro.
