Godbless set to complete sprint double at Battle on the Beach; Onojuvwevwo, Eyakpobeyan also listed

Reigning National Sports Festival double sprint champion, Tima Godbless will be hoping for a favorable weather along the west to Long Beach in California where she will be competing in the 100m and 200m events on Friday.

The 20-year-old impressed indoors in the American Collegiate circuit, storming to an incredible 7.08 lifetime best over the 60m, the fastest time by a Nigerian in well over a decade.

She however started her outdoor campaign under a windy condition at Baton Rouge in Louisiana, running a wind-aided 11.20 to finish third at the Battle on the Bayou meet held at LSU Bernie Moore Stadium.

She was any faster in the 200m as she failed to break 23 seconds for the fifth time in her career. She ran 23.30 to finish fifth.

In California, Godbless will be eager to fulfil expectations of those who believe her 7.08 run indoors in the 60m should translate to a sub 11 seconds performance in the 100m.

Godbless will be running from lane six in the very first heat alongside another Nigerian, Tiana Eyakpobeyan who will be running from lane eight.

In the 200m, Godbless will also be running alongside another Nigerian, Ella Onojuvwevwo in the first heat. While she will be running from lane five this time, the also 20-year-old Onojuvwevwo will run from lane two.

At the Pepsi Florida Relays at the Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Florida, Joy Nwokike and Victory Godah will be in action in the 200m event.

Nwokike who opened her outdoor campaign with a wind-aided 23.40 last month in North Carolina is bidding to break 23 seconds in the event. She holds a 23.44 personal best in the event.

Godah who also opened her outdoor campaign running 24.11 in the half lap race last month knows she is close to breaking 23 seconds in the event after running a 23.16 lifetime best last May.

On Saturday, Chioma Nwachukwu, who made heads turn indoors, running a lifetime best of 52.07 will be keen to transfer that form outdoors as she bids to break 52 seconds for the first-time in her career.

Former World U20 4x400m relay champion, Opeyemi Oke will also be in the same as the 16 year old Nwachukwu.

The 20 year old Oke has broken 54 seconds twice this outdoor campaign and will be preparing to run faster than the 53.87 she ran in Atlanta.
