Godbless set to make SEC Outdoor Championships debut, Akpan targets first final
Fresh from helping Nigeria secure the women’s 4x100m relay ticket to the Paris Olympics, reigning National Sports Festival double sprint champion, Tima Godbless will make her debut in the SEC Outdoor Championships Thursday (early Friday morning in Nigeria) at the James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
The 19 year old will be aiming for a miracle of sort and make it to the podium just like Favour Ofili did three years ago in her debut in the Championships, finishing second in the Southeastern conference.
Godbless will compete in the preliminary round of the 200m and has been drawn in the first of five heats. She will be hoping to be among the top two automatic qualifiers or end up and the three best non-automatic qualifiers.
The day will not be for Godbless alone as Auburn University’s Abasiono Akpan will be aiming to go a step fruther than she did last year when she failed to make it to the podium.
Last year she finished sixth in the final (57.11) after dropping an impressive 56.57 in the first round.
